William Blount High School Band

Weekly Update 9/7/10

September 7th, 2010

We had a great last week! So much was accomplished at all of our practices, and our performance at Bearden was a great improvement. We still have lots of work to do, but where we’ve gotten so far is great!

This (short) week we will have normal after school practices, but we will not be traveling to the Jefferson County game. Enjoy what will be another long weekend for students.

Parent conferences are on Monday 9/13 from 4-7  p.m. If you would like to have a conference please call and schedule one as I will be splitting time between the two buildings.

We will have a booster meeting at 6:30 on 9/14. Please plan to attend and support the William Blount Band. This group is successful with the support of every single parent.

Have a great week!

Weekly Update 8/30/10

August 30th, 2010

What a great week! Great practices on Tuesday and Thursday, and wonderful on Saturday. We ended up putting 10 charts on the field on Saturday thanks to everybody’s hard work. Congratulations, you should be proud of that hard work!

Friday was also great at Karns. We played a great run, and still have plenty to work on. Drumline had a great experience playing with the Karns drumline. Thanks to the Karns band for their hospitality.

This week we have regular practices Tuesday and Thursday, and a game at Bearden on Friday. The Itinerary for the game will be out soon once we get some more details.

Thank you all for your support, this has been and will be a great season thanks to every student and parent.

Weekly Update 8/23/10

August 24th, 2010

Thanks for a great week last week. Students worked hard at rehearsals, and Friday night the halftime show was a hit! Keep practicing that show music and stand tunes, and let’s make this a productive week for the band.
We will have Tuesday and Thursday practices as normal, as well as a Saturday practice from 9-2. Bring a lunch and be ready to get a lot of good things accomplished. We will also be traveling to Karns Friday for the football game. More information will be on the itinerary in the band room.
Thanks so much for your hard work!

Weekly Update 8/14/10

August 14th, 2010

What a wild couple of days! Great practices all week, even if we lost some outside time due to heat. Friday night we had the Jamboree at William Blount. Thanks so much for all of your help students and parents. Everything went extremely smooth, and our football concessions are off to a great start.
Earlier today we had our 2nd annual mega car wash. It was a great success with many cars, several motorcycles, a fire truck and a house boat. We collected quite a bit in donations, and hopefully students received lots of sponsorships to boost their accounts. Thanks so much for coming out and working. Everything went great from set up to tear down.
Next week is our first home game. If you can work the concession stand Friday we would love to have your help. Students will be wearing khaki shorts, their (new) band shirt and tennis shoes for the game.
Thanks again for everyone’s help this week! The success of this band depends on every person’s help, and we are certainly off on the right foot.

Weekly Update 8/6/10

August 6th, 2010

Welcome Back!

Camp is behind us and we’ve had a great first week of school.  Students are getting settled in to their schedules, and band is as busy as ever!  Next week will be a busy one for all of us with after school practice, the football jamboree and the second annual mega car wash!  It will be an exciting week for the William Blount Band.

Don’t forget to check the calendar here on the website for upcoming events.  A tentative paper copy was also sent home with students.

Several people still need to turn in the handbook acknowledgement form from this year’s handbook.  Please get those in as soon as possible.

All students are required to work a shift at both the jamboree and car wash next week.  Sign-ups are in the band room, and those who do not sign up by next Wednesday will be assigned shifts.

Don’t forget to get out there and get sponsors for the car wash!  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and the money raised helps each and every student of the William Blount Band.

It will be a big week for the band next week, let’s all do our part to make it a successful one!
